Lawson 150
Our proud community of Lawson is celebrating 150 years in 2021. To mark this special occasion, the Lawson 150 committee and the Lawson Park Board have been hard at work creating a year-long celebration which kicked off in March with a community information event.
Our biggest event of the year was the Lawson Picnic and 150 Celebration which was held July 8-11, 2021. We had a record crowd attend this year’s Picnic. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors for the year! We were honored to have Lawson Assembly of God church as our presenting sponsor for the Lawson Picnic and 150 Celebration.
A 40-page commemorative magazine was produced to mark the occasion. It includes remarks from the Mayor, Lawson history and what’s going on currently, recognizes our sponsors, the Picnic/150 Celebration schedule and map, as well as entertainment and event information for the entire weekend. A digital version is available here.
After the conclusion of the Picnic, the Lawson 150 Committee and Lawson Park Board will use the remaining sponsorship funds for park improvements and beautification projects around town. Other projects planned include a time capsule from the Lawson Chamber of Commerce and a “Giving Thanks” event scheduled for November 7, 2021.
One of the biggest initiatives of the Lawson 150 committee is encouraging 150 community service projects to take place in 2021. Projects can range from picking up trash, planting flowers, painting benches to larger scale projects.
There is no formal process for performing a service project. We are encouraging people to post their projects on Facebook with #lawson150projects.
Groups interested hosting a service project on City property are encouraged to coordinate with City Hall.
