LAWSON CITY POOL TO REMAIN CLOSED THIS SEASON
After careful consideration, the Lawson City Council has voted to keep the Lawson City Pool closed during the summer 2026 season. The pool was built in 1966 as a private swim club, and the City took ownership in 2019. While the pool was successful during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, revenue has dropped considerably ever since. Over the past two years, the pool has lost a total of $96,000 in revenue. With other municipalities opening new, larger aquatic facilities with more features, we have experienced a huge decrease in attendance. In addition, there has been a 60% increase in pool chemical costs, and a continued rise in employment costs.
During the closure, the City will reevaluate the pool operations to explore opportunities for future use. Any families that already purchased season passes for the 2026 season will receive a full refund. City staff will be reaching out to issue those refunds.
City Administrator Stan Dobbins says, “We understand this is disappointing for our community. However, we believe in being good stewards of the tax-payers’ dollars, and continuing to operate the pool at this significant of a loss doesn’t make sense financially.” ... See MoreSee Less
